Heading to Toronto today. Purpose: Simulator Training. Our Careers as pilots is a fascinating career in many regards. I must admit however that those who contemplate a career as a pilot there are many things to consider. A very big challenge is that every year (some cases every 6 months) Pilots are held to a very high standard of training in which their credentials can be confiscated for a mere screw up in the simulator. Part of the exam as required by Transport Canada Regulations entails at least 2 engine failures during a recurrent exam including a single engine landing, and a selection of other emergencies chosen by the examiner usually totalling to 5 emergency scenarios. The pass mark is 100%, close doesnt cut it on these yearly or semi yearly exams. Ramifications to not passing the exam results in loss of your licence with remedial training and an exam to get it back. So, have confidence in any time you step aboard a plane that your crew is fresh and up to date on emergency and normal Operations. Im the lucky one tomorrow as Im the examiner/Check Pilot, but I just thought Id pass on to the non-pilots out there a glimpse into how our industry works. I dont know of any other industry where professionals are continually challenged to such high standards. Happy Flying!
