Heady stuff; retired BYU Religion professor Donald Cannon dropped - TopicsExpress

Heady stuff; retired BYU Religion professor Donald Cannon dropped by to see me. The issue of the book on Jesus the Christ and modern social issues came up. I asked him to review my contribution and if it meets his standards as an educator would he be willing to offer an endorsement. He was very willing to critique and endorse it if it met his parameters.. He then related how he was on a committee to review publications for the LDS Church at one point in the past. Wow...the lesson Im acknowledging is how not burning bridges DOES pay off. OJOC? A health magazine asked for solicitations on low scale efforts to create a difference with minimal time constraints. I submitted the web site plus the idea of going to ONE gym and offering to take lost-found clothes to a homeless shelter or womens shelter. Time spent would be two-three hours monthly. Number of people affected directly would easily be over 100 in one year. Total time spent over one calendar year is 36 hours. It is a TOTAL win-win socially. Clothes get put into circulation for the less fortunate. Gym gets a tax write off and experiencing a dose of community good will. The person who heads up the effort WILL experience a kind of head rush for proactively addressing the needs of the less fortunate. It beats having the gym throw clothes out and destination being a land fill or community refuse dump.
