Healthy Snacking Ideally, food you offer for snacks is high in vitamin C, high in fiber and low in sugar and fat. Healthy snack choices can run the gamut, including fruits such as apples, bananas, grapes, oranges and strawberries, or dried fruit such as raisins and prunes. Raw vegetables such as carrots, celery and broccoli are also an excellent choice, and can be made tastier served with a light creamy dip or salad dressing. Calcium-rich dairy products are another good choice, including such foods as light cheese and yogurt, as are nuts and whole-grain snacks of breakfast cereal, oatmeal, crackers, cereal bars, butter-free popcorn and pretzels. Try to avoid sugary juices, and encourage your children to drink water to stay hydrated.
