Healthy tip of the day.....Snack between meals (bfast, lunch & dinner). Basically, snack every 3 hrs, 4 hrs the latest, same concept as 6 small meals. Snacking Depends when you start eating bfast. I get to work early, so I start my breakfast at 6:30 am, mid-morning snack at 9:30am, mid-afternoon snack either at 2 or 3:30pm. I dont always have a mid-evening snack, I rather have a mid-morning snack, but if I do have an evening snack, its before or after my evening workout. The 4 Best Times of Day to Snack & When its ok to Skip 1. You should snack...anytime you are going more than 4 hours between meals. Four hours is about the maximum amount of time you should have between meals. If you go longer than that, your metabolism will slow down, your blood sugar will drop, and by the time you finally do eat you will overeat. You will have low energy to workout or be active. 2. You should snack...after any intense workout lasting for 1 hour or more. Its important to replace your energy stores with carbohydrate and rebuild your muscle with protein after a long, intense workout. 3. Snack before bed. Yep! I said it- you can have a bedtime snack! Eating a small snack before bed wont turn straight into fat. In fact, if its been several hours since dinner, having a small snack before bed can help you sleep better! **But what you choose for that snack is super important. Smart bedtime snacks are ones that will help you sleep without weighing you down. Try a source of complex carbs which stimulate the release of serotonin, a neurochemical that makes you feel relaxed. Good complex carbs to enjoy as a bedtime snack, are those that are low in fat and protein, cottage cheese, slice of whole wheat bread or oatmeal. 4. You should snack before going out to eat. Eat a small snack before dining out. This ensures that they are not so hungry when they get there that they make an impulsive decision when ordering or overeat. A small snack before going out also means you can skip the calorie-laden appetizers that can be really tempting if you are starving when you arrive at the restaurant. Its ok to skip a mid-morning snack as long as you have a balanced and filling breakfast that includes a whole grain carbohydrate, lean protein or low-fat dairy serving, some healthy fat, and a fruit or veggie and eat lunch within 4 hours later, you shouldnt need a mid-morning snack. self/flash/nutrition/2012/02/best-time-of-day-to-snack/
