Heart of a Warrior – “Little children, let us not love in word - TopicsExpress

Heart of a Warrior – “Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” 1 John 3:18 My wife loves to hear the words “I love you” from her husband, and I like to hear it as well. We even like to speak those words to our children and grandchildren. There is something about those 3 words that bring closure until we see each other again. But Jesus is telling us to not only speak of love to one another but to show love to one another. God is telling us and instructing us as small children, not to be immature about the kind of love we are to show to one another. I remember my Dad telling me that He loved me, but his actions toward me and my family said something different. I am sure he deeply cared for me, but every time his conduct spoke a very confusing message to me. Therefore when I grew up to be a man, I had some trust issues, I did not understand what true love meant. It was not until I became a man, born of God, that God showed me what true love meant. God had to reprogram my mind on what true love really meant. My mind had to be renewed and transformed for a period of time to fully understand what love was all about. So as we come to some concluding thoughts on the word love, let’s talk about how we show the kind of love God is talking about. Since love is an action word, “…in deed and in truth”. God is asking us to show people that we love them by good deeds. It would be nonsense to tell a waitress, “good job” and not tip her. She might tell you to keep your compliment and just leave the tip. Love should be showed by a positive action, and then, seasoned with some truth. Love has been distorted through the years and by the enemy. Love that is pure, that is true, thinks of itself last and the other person first. True love wants nothing but the best for the other person without expecting anything in return other than the hope of being loved back. That’s what Jesus ask from us, “Love the Lord your God, and love one another.” Listen to the words of Mother Teresa, “The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread.”SDG14-
