Heck of a day yesterday. Son went through endoscopy and colonoscopy to sort out ailments hes had. He couldnt eat for nearly 48 hours up to and after the procedures. I went to work thinking of him and my wife who was with him and I know it isnt easy for her as well. He gets through and its my international to get out of work on time or as soon after shift end as I can. I say that as I find it difficult to leave on time. I manage a 30 minute after shift end departure and make it home. No sooner than I walk in and begging to out down my backpack and say daddys home! That I hear the drunken sailor on leave that fell off the dock and smashed his foot, except the voice comes in the sound of my wife. Now, prior to Stone, I worked in construction for 17 years. While it may have been mostly dealing with IT, I still worked with all the construction crews, which gets pretty rough with the language. Id have to say, by wife made me blush with the words that came out of her mouth. Two things came to mind. She really hurt herself to say something like that as shes really good about not using profanity. Second, I questioned whether I really wanted to go see what had happened as I was scared. I sat in the bedroom for about 30 seconds looking at my son and with a smile, I asked him, do you think I should go and check on your mom? Of course managed to draw up the courage to see what happened. There she is, on the couch, expressions of pain and spouting more profanities as shes grabbing her foot. She says how she swung her foot right into the leg of the couch as she was passing by and how she thinks she broke her toe. I said okay, turned and walked away directly to the freezer and grabbed a cold pack. Came back, told her to lay back and proceeded to put the cold pack onto her foot, wrapping it tightly through the cursing a and squirmings of my wife. From house entry to ice pack application, a total of 5 minutes had passed. I can see the frustration on her face and immediately understood. It wasnt just the pain in her foot, which I knew to be great. It was the whole day and day prior of her watching her only child complain of being hungry and uncomfortable, of going through a medical procedure by which hes sedated, the whole thing after procedure, then to bust her toe right when her husband comes home. When I said lets go to urgent care, I swear, the look on this girls face.... So, X-ray, antibiotic Rx, CVS pick up and dinner run, we make it home. Thanks to my wonderful mother in law for stepping in when called to come over and watch the boy at a moments notice. Thanks for the strength of my wife to endure these endless doctors visits and then have to deal with her own malady. Its what gives me strength to move forward and aim for better. How can I complain or hold still when she does so much? She wondered why I was smiling at urgent care. I told her how I was just thinking that even this little bit of stepping in, taking her to the hospital, making arrangements with my MIL, holding her hand and supporting her during this little process. I smiled because I felt like, finally, I can help out a little bit for once. She does everything for our family and household. Im grateful for her and for all that she does. Im grateful to have someone that special in my life. Grateful for the family that raised her to be something special. Thats why I smiled. Yeah, she got hurt, but shell be okay. Shes still very special and still in my life. What else could I do, but to smile, just as Im smiling now thinking io her. Hope today is better than yesterday for her! Have a fantastic day, people!
