¡Hello! Do you know about EMGS? EMGS was established in 2002. During the previous five years, their founders Ståle Johansen, Terje Eidesmo and Svein Ellingsrud had developed and tested the idea that electromagnetic (EM) energy could be applied to the search for reservoir-scale oil and gas. Today this Norwegian company offers a great opportunity for students; Summer School for Controlled Source Electromagnetic (CDEM) Method. The objective: During this 5-day summer school, the students will receive an in-depth introduction to the marine CSEM method and its application to oil & gas exploration. The goal is to give students the opportunity to learn about a geophysical method that has experienced very fast industry development over the last 10 years, but so far has received very little attention in university study programs and books for students. The summer school will be taught by industry leading experts from EMGS in an interactive classroom setting. The school program is designed to cover a broad spectrum of topics such as the physics of CSEM, data acquisition, processing, modeling, inversion and interpretation. Course content •Basic concepts and the physics of CSEM •CSEM acquisition •CSEM data processing •CSEM modeling •CSEM inversion •CSEM interpretation and case studies •Computer lab Instructors · Sébastien de la Kethulle de Ryhove, PhD (Senior Scientist, EMGS Research Group) · Daniel Shantsev, PhD (Senior Scientist, EMGS Research Group; Adjunct Professor at University of Oslo) · Valente Ricoy Paramo, PhD (Exploration Advisor, EMGS Villahermosa)Daniel Baltar, MSc (Exploration Advisor, EMGS Villahermosa) Target group The summer school program is aimed at last-year undergraduate level (BSc) and graduate level (MSc or PhD) Geophysics students. Requirements: 1) No prior knowledge of CSEM is required. The participating students should have a good understanding of physics and applied mathematics. Basic knowledge of petroleum geology would be beneficial. So, you should have passed electromagnetic prospecting course (please attached a PDF file with your academic record) 2) The principal language of the lectures and teaching material will be English. Three of the instructors are Spanish speaking and can provide language support as needed. You need to have a good fluency for English. 3) The summer school program is aimed at last-year undergraduate level (BSc) and graduate level (MSc or PhD) Geophysics students. Dates July 29th – August 2nd, 2013 Location The summer school will be hosted by IPN, Escuela Superior de Ingeniería y Arquitectura Ticomán ESIA. Cost EMGS will cover costs for travel, board and accommodation for all participants from outside Mexico City. The school will be free of charge for all participants. Please send us the following personal details : Full name Semester Level of English language proficiency Academic Record (PDF) The deadline for this application will be: June 26, 2013; please send us your details as soon as you possible. We thank the geophysicist department head, M. C. David Escobedo Zenil, for providing this information. Sincerely, SAGFI UNAM. youtube/watch?v=qNABMieMvZE
