Hello all Forest Friends, A couple of updates on NQTA happenings At our board meeting last Monday Merilyn Elwood has joined our board Merilyn is NQTAs Invasive Species specialist and brings a committed, quick thinking intelligence to our board Also Nancy Greenlaw was voted unanimously to join our board and has graciously accepted Nancy recently retired as councilor at Mnt Wachusett Community College She has been an excellent stewardship worker since joining us and always brings a smile , motherly instincts and excellent commitment to whatever she does These 2 are wonderful additions that bring fresh knowledge and intelligence to our group, so Thank You to you both! At our board meeting NQTA also voted unanimously to oppose this monstrosity of a pipeline proposed to come directly through our beautiful region Our Tuesday Trekkers joined the rolling March through Orange and over 20 of us made a difference Also NQTA will be providing mapping services in support of this anti pipeline initiative Go to nofrackedgasinmass.org for more details Scott Pralinsky of Tropical Adventures spoke at our Gathering and we were made aware of wonderful stewardship opportunities available in Costa Rica again go [email protected] for some amazing stewardship opportunities Also at our Gathering the sales of Allen Young s books on the N Quabbin are now available Allen has been a tremendous supporter of NQTA and now ENQ and a personal mentor so lets support Allen On the stewardship front we are finishing the incredible Nolumbeka Project and have been invited to join them at their Native American Festival on Aug 2nd , all are welcome to attend Presently we are knee deep (literally) in the rebuilding of Tom Broulett access road (thanks Tom) and half a mile of heavy trail construction along the Red Apple Trail system This is unlike anything NQTA or myself personally have ever attempted before We have received donations of materials from Red Tolman (whos Mustang story will be coming attraction at NQTA Gathering) and outright kick butt tractor services from Bill Wheeler When completed this section will open over 100 miles of connected trail systems that will provide for unparalleled eco tourism sustainability and opportunities We could use anyones help on Wednesday Trailblazing day Map numbers # 9 and 10 are now complete of Birch Hill / Lake Dennison and they will be our first Trail map and guide it is now under construction Last we are moving to prototype stage on calendar of MREC for 2015 This calendar is critically needed to support the sustainability of MREC Several artists of our region have collaborated to create a true artistic rendition and it truly representative of the beauty of our N Quabbin region again with all funds going towards MREC Our membership drive is still underway providing critically needed funds to keep this train rolling so if you havent re upped we sure could use your help and we will get you this complete set of unique NQTA maps So Thanks so much for your continued support and hope to see you out on the trails Bobby Curley NQTA President and ENQ Co-Chair
