Hello everyone. Heidi here-Im the Camp Administrator for the upcoming spectacular Monroe Mandolin Camp, 9/4-7/2014. I wanted to give a very public, grand acknowledgment of THANKS and gratitude to a group of people who have been instrumental in one way or another, for Mike Compton and I to host this instructional camp. To James Monroe, Bills son. For your trust and wholehearted support in Mike championing your fathers music, and your absolute blessing in Mike spearheading and creating a new Monroe Mandolin Camp. Thank you. For your video promo of the camp and inviting folks down to attend-we appreciate your willingness to do so. And for being a part of our camp-in the jams and instructor concert on 9/6/14, were looking forward to your involvement and your generosity in being there with us. Your connection with your daddys music and your own musical endeavors and stories will be wonderful to hear! To @Gabrielle Gray and the International Bluegrass Music Museum in Owensboro, KY with their vision in creating a different style camp, that enabled us to take the reigns of this niche Monroe style camp that we are offering. Gabrielle, we appreciate your gift of releasing your Monroe-style camp and giving it over to Mike to handle, and your belief in his continuing his vision of promoting, preserving, and keeping alive Bill Monroes music. It has been a blessing to be able to create our own camp based upon Monroes music, and to create it in our own vision and dream. Thank you. To Scott Tichenor and The Mandolin Cafe. Scott, you have been such an incredible support to Mike and I in this monumental undertaking in creating a camp from scratch. You have tirelessly helped in the promotion on your page, on twitter, and on social media. Deepest thanks of gratitude for your guidance and friendship over the years. And, for supporting our youth in attending camp. The Mandolin Cafe Scholarship award has gone to a very deserving young player, and thank you for your generosity! To Danny Hootenanny Clark- for showing me some ropes, and helping us get the word out about camp. I appreciate your enthusiasm, your generosity, and your kindness in this whirlwind of creation. Deepest thanks! To Christie Carter and Walter Carter Carter Vintage Guitars-for their hosting our 2014 Monroe Mandolin Camp BENEFIT CONCERT on 9/6/14 @7:30CST, allowing not only our participants listen to Monroe music in all its glory played by our instructors, but in supporting LIVE music and the mission of our camp. To all of our participants, attendees, chaperones, and support group-thank you. We have created this camp for you, for Bills music. We are so looking forward to the learning, the friendships renewed and continued, and mostly, the smiles of playing music together! (I can hardly wait for next Thursday!) To our donation angels, who have contributed with their hard-earned money, in supporting others and youth to attend camp this year, including: John Gardinsky, Raymond Huffmaster, Nelson Peddycoart, Shaun Garrity, Wilbur Caulder, Craig Coleman, Rhonda R., Kathy Nichols, The Pine Lunch, Henry Babson, Mark Kuns, Kevin McLaughlin, Joshua Alexander, Bruce Pou, Thomas Quinn, pat Murphree, Mitchell Tabas, and Mike Bromkey. You, musicians in your own right, are helping others to learn and carry on the brilliant Monroe style playing and tradition. Our deepest gratitude of thanks. To Franzke Stringed Instruments for creating a custom-one-of-a-kind wooden F5 mandolin keychain---which all of our participants and donors will receive. You created something from an inspiration of an idea. The keychains in alder, cherry, maple-they are gorgeous and a beautiful momento to all our participants to take home with them. To AeroDesigns for the excellent embroidery on our hats and t-shirts. They both look like a million bucks, and I know the owners will wear them proudly! To Jive Printing in Nashville and the crew at Office Depot in Rivergate. You helped me get our posters, instructional booklets, cards, fliers, and stickers ready in lightning speed time, and did a great job. I appreciate you answering my questions, and taking care of me in this process so beautifully. To all of our instructors: David Davis, Skip Gorman, John Keith, Mark Royal, Paul Duff, Will Kimble, Raymond Huffmaster, Scott Simontacchi, Casey Campbell-your years of dedication to your craft of music making and instrument making...thank you. And to Mike Compton-a brilliant musician who is a preservationist, a historian, a teacher, a colleague, a player, and a friend to so many. Your tireless efforts and years of transcribing Bills music and recordings note for note-you are leaving a legacy behind you with each persons life you touch and interact with. Thank you for everything youve done and continue to do for traditional music, in keeping Monroes music alive and vital and present, and in your joy of playing!!! Thanks all!
