Hello everyone, I’m the minister at the People’s Church and - TopicsExpress

Hello everyone, I’m the minister at the People’s Church and wanted to clarify a few things regarding the church in response to some questions raised or at least implied within other threads. Before I do that, let me say that I am a local person living in Partington, having bought a house here 6 years ago to be part of the church. We really love being part of the community of Partington. Firstly, with regard to questions around youth work, the People’s Church does employ a degree level JNC qualified and DBS checked youth worker, as well as a team of willing, trained and DBS check approved volunteers (some of whom also have degrees in youthwork too). As a church we have more than 25 local people who willingly and voluntarily give their time and energy to serve this community here in different capacities, for a variety of age ranges, through a variety of events; from regular drop ins, Men’s Breakfasts, Ladies’ Lunches, and youth work to debt / budgeting help and community BBQs / Fundays / Community Breakfasts, Christmas parties etc. It is correct that the church has become a ROC partner. We did so some weeks ago, before any of the comments that have caused local concern. We became a ROC partner having been in conversation with them, then our church leadership team, and then at our monthly church together night. We became a ROC partner church based on ROC’s previous and existing track record of community engagement and transformation, and their desire to work with local agencies and community groups to serve Partington. We are grateful for the initial apology from Debra regarding comments on the ROC website, and will welcome a more detailed apology in person, which Debra has indicated will happen at a forthcoming Open Forum. The People’s Church has been established in Partington for nearly 50 years, was built by the community, is proud to be part of the community and will continue to serve the people of Partington to the best of our ability. The People’s Church will be hosting this community forum on Mon 4th August, from 6pm-7pm, where local residents will have the opportunity to hear from ROC for themselves, and also air any questions they may have. If you are planning to be there, please come prepared to air questions and views in a constructive way, so that views can be expressed allowing for conversation and response to take place. Open Forum Monday 4th August, 6pm – 7pm (approx.) Come and hear about plans for The Fuse and have an opportunity to ask questions and have your say. Members of the ROC team will be there to meet you. You can send questions in advance to me via [email protected] as I have been asked to chair the meeting. I will personally acknowledge your email to confirm questions have been received. I am sure many people may want to ask the same question, and submitting in advance means we can ensure these questions make their way to the top of the question agenda. (Questions can still be asked on the night if not submitted in advance) Many thanks NB I can already see there are some questions being raised as to building capacity - we can hold around 130 people seated in the main hall, and have an overspill room with audio feed that could probably accommodate around 20 people. I will happily put it to ROC that initial feedback suggests a bigger venue may be appropriate. Jonathan
