My story starts 20 years ago—after my third child was born. I injured my back doing normal, everyday things. I saw many doctors at first and was told I had herniated a disc at L4/L5. Eventually, I was also told I had degenerative disc disease and more than 50 bone spurs in my spine. The first six months after my injury were a blur because of all the pain medication I was on. Over time, I developed an allergic reaction to the medications and started getting injections to help with the pain. I spent a lot of time bedridden and in a wheelchair. There were many times each week I had to be carried to the restroom. By this point, I was 225 pounds, which was extremely overweight for my frame. I also had a lot of medical bill debt, but when you cant move or work and just eat to comfort yourself, this is what happens. I lived for 19 years like this. I saw a Laser Spine Institute advertisement on TV. I dont know what made me even write down the number, but I did. Within a week I called, hesitantly, and spoke with the kindest person. He assured me that everything on their commercial was true and even gave me previous patient numbers to call. Within a few weeks, I was in Tampa to have my surgery! It all happened so fast. Laser Spine Institute’s staff is unbelievably amazing! They are like no other group of people I have ever met! The flow of the office is like nothing Ive seen in my 46 years; they do everything for you. They allowed me to take all the time I needed to talk; they listened to what I said and helped me plan for the future. The day of my surgery, I basically just thought to myself that I had nothing to lose. I didnt even go in with any hopes of finding relief. When I woke up in recovery, I was instantly amazed because I had regained feeling in my right leg—something the #sciatica had robbed me of. After a few moments, I was walking on my own pain free. I honestly thought maybe I had died and just didnt know it because for 19 years I had been in constant pain, and now I wasnt. I walked back to the hotel that was two blocks away that afternoon! That was a year ago. Since then, Ive lost 55 pounds and am active each day with my children. I owe Laser Spine Institute my life. Everything they said was true! Im pill-free, pain-free and happier than I ever remembered I could be. I can now run and play with my children again! My outlook on my future has never been brighter.
