Helping Me Home – Karla Luckow says: Back It UP!!! Yes, Everyone. In every aspect of life, Back it Up. The idea for this article came from my oldest son just now having a computer issue and some Jerkamabunny – yes that’s my own special word said for Only $200 we can fix that! Seriously for $200 go buy a Windows Program, scrub the machine and be done with it. If it had been Backed Up No big deal. I have a second hard drive in the computers we own where I store documents, spreadsheets, photos, and anything else of importance, yes, especially music. Okay, I need to work on pictures. But really everything needs to be stored in a couple of places. When you use me for your Real Estate Transaction you can rest assured every detail I have is backed up. I have a hard copy, my Brokers office has a hard copy. I have copies of the files on my second hard drive and I have copies on CD. No one can say “Oh, I didn’t get that.” Or oh, sorry it’s lost. Back It UP!!! It is so important to have back-up copies of Everything. Very important papers: Your Will, Living-Will, Advanced Directive, Birth Certificates, Drivers Licenses, Social Security Cards, Immunization Records, School Transcripts, Passports, Check Stubs for the last year, Tax returns for the last 3 years, copies of Credit Cards (front and back), copies of Credit Card and Bank Statements. Ever had a “mystery charge” show up on your credit card? If you have a back-up copy of past statements you can Prove how long you’ve been being scammed. You would be surprised how often the credit card company doesn’t show that charge. I’ve had it happen, well, I had a back-up copy. All of it needs to be stored hard copy in a FIREPROOF & Waterproof Place and also a digital back up somewhere safe. Keep them all separate place, just to be safe. I personally do this with my passwords too. It is just better to be safe now than it will be being sorry later. Yes, of course it is easy enough to replace most of these things, or get a printout from wherever. Ever had a Loved One in Critical Condition and you couldn’t find their Advanced Directive? I HAVE and it’s a HORRIBLE Experience. Have you ever had a house fire or known someone who has? There go All of the important things. Okay, well you go to get copies. Try to get a Drivers License with no proof of who you are. Try to get a Birth Certificate or Social Security card without a photo ID and if you’re parents are no longer with us, it’s even worse. Go ask your bank for money from your account with No ID. Why take a chance? Seriously, yes it will cost a bit extra to have a second Certified Birth Certificate to stash somewhere, the same with a Driver’s License or at the very least a State ID. You also NEED a Back Up of your Mortgage paperwork, your Deed of Trust and your Homeowners Insurance and Home Warranty. They too are Very Important Documents. (And READ what your insurance does and does not cover, you may be surprised there, but we’ll get into that later.) So, now you can see the importance of Back It UP!!! Please share the information with your friends and family. You won’t regret it. A few minutes time to save it in two places instead of one and a LOT less head ache & heart ache in the future.
