Here are the weekly instructions from the Tea Party of the Villages (While you are sitting around, think of what the other guy is doing, okay well they are obviously not taking spelling lessons): Instructions for the Week of September 28 - October 4 This weeks theme: AMENDMENT 1 - AMENDMENT ONE WILL INCRESE TAXES! Sunday, Sept. 28. Prepare your letter to the editor of your local publications. Google the name of your local publications to find the editors name and email address. Cut and past the following sample letter. Or, write one of your own focusing on this theme AMENDMENT 1 - AMENDMENT ONE WILL INCRESE TAXES! Environmental groups are loudly proclaiming that Amendment 1 is not a tax increase. That is misleading at best and dishonest at worst. Everyones local property taxes will increase as a consequence of this amendment. As the amount of state-owned, conservation property increases, the amount of taxable, privately owned land decreases. That means less tax revenue for schools, fire and safety services, sanitary services, administration costs, etc. Local government will face the choice to cut spending or raise taxes to meet local needs. Lake County is already trying to raise taxes by 20%. Orlando already has. Floridas counties that have the most conservation land within their boundaries have the highest property taxes. 97% of Monroe County is conservation land, and they have the highest property taxes in the state. Monroe is followed closely by Collier and Franklin Counties who also have some of the states highest property taxes. The idea that doc stamp funded conservation purchases come at no cost to property owners is a false one. There is a cost. There is always a cost, and Floridas residents will pay for it in increased property taxes. Amendment 1 just adds to the tax burden of the remaining private property owners. Im voting NO on Amendment 1. Monday, Sept. 29. E-mail your letter to the Editor to any and all local newspapers in your area. Tuesday, Sept. 30. Cut and paste your letter to the editor into the template below and send to all your trusted contacts. In the subject line of your e-mail, type Urgent Action Needed on Amendment 1. Dear Friend, As you may know, the first proposal to amend the Florida Constitution on the November ballot will be the Water and Land Conservation Amendment.: I believe this amendment is bad for Floridas future and have sent the following letter to our local paper, (example: The Star Gazette). COPY AND PASTE YOUR LETTER Please forward this to any interested parties who might lend their influence to prevent this amendment from becoming part of the Florida Constitution. If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope you will join me in keeping Florida out of the hands of special interests. Thanks for your help.
