Here is evidence that New Jerseys middle class is disappearing and the gap between rich and poor is growing wider. This problem was created by our nations economic double standards. We maintain a generous welfare system for corporations, but offer little relief for middle class families. Billions of dollars are given to corporations in subsidies and tax breaks while those same businesses continue to cut jobs. We have an economy that allows corporations to pay next to nothing in federal income taxes, rewards companies for shipping jobs overseas and keeping profits offshore, and has tax loopholes that allow Wall Street millionaires to have a lower tax rate than a school teacher. And time after time the only cuts politicians are willing to make are those against the working poor because those families cant afford lobbyists to defend their interests. Our country has prided itself for having a strong middle class, but we are forgetting the policies that made our middle class strong in the first place. We need a strong labor movement that allows workers to earn their fair share of the profits which they help create, we need affordable educational opportunities for all children, and we need sensible corporate incentives that benefit our nations workforce rather than foreign countries and corporate executives. If we want a stable and balanced economy these are the policies that will help us get there.
