Here is the link to the YouTube Video of the October 7th, 2014 School Committee Meeting. I just watched all of the Public Comments from this meeting...they lasted a little over one hour and they are well worth your time if you are concerned about the recent personnel cuts in the School Department, especially the Valerie Diggs situation. The Public comments begin at the 25 minute mark, and end at the One hour and 27 minute point in the meeting. The speakers during the public input period included Valeries husband, son and daughter, in addition to many school teachers, students, and library professionals. I would like to thank the School Committee for allowing all of the public comment speakers the time they needed to state exactly what they wanted to say. I have been to other committee meetings in town where that was not the case, where residents didnt have the time to state what was on their minds, or where they were timed, or where the audience couldnt react to what they were saying. I was very pleased to see that at this School Committee Meeting, that each speaker was treated with respect and I hope that what they said will be fully considered by the School Committee and Administration as we move forward to solve our current budgetary constraints and shortfalls. I was dismayed that the School Committee didnt immediately reply or make any comments about all that was just said during this open session, however, starting at the two hour and 20 minute mark, Dr. Tiano addressed the personnel cuts and the budgetary shortfall, and the School Committee members also commented later on in the meeting.
