Heres a belated story about Robin Williams. It reflects no opinion, just a matter of fact observation. A few years ago, I was in the coffee shop at the greatest bookstore in the country, Powells Books in Portland, Oregon. All of a sudden Robin Williams walks into the coffee shop. Of course, everybody in there was thinking the same thing: holy crap, its Robin Williams! He was very nice, very courteous, but at the same time, Ive been around lots of famous people in my lifetime. Robin Williams seemed completely uncomfortable in his own skin. Ive never seen somebody seem so insecure. I thought it was very weird at the time, but now it all kind of makes sense. Lets put it this way--I wouldnt want to trade places with that guy.
