Heres a favorite old song that captures much of the feel of the day up here. Im still partial to Sequentias rendition, but cannot seem to find it on the web. This versions likewise lovely in any event. I tend to think that the English language peaked about 1300, when it bore a sing-songish Scandinavian lilt, many a satisfyingly fricative West-German consonant, and a wealth of deeply sensual Romance-lingual vowels - precisely what youd expect, I suppose, from a melding of Norman French with Old Anglo-Saxon. I often plague my nearby friends with long recitations of Chaucer to prove the point, doubtless trying their patience in doing so. Here at least you can simply shut if off. https://youtube/watch?v=Kr2LRpx4Uyk&list=PLnSS1JcHlVk6f07vX1wYpqxbMOmELV_uM
