Heres my report, as promised! Buckle down (or just keep - TopicsExpress

Heres my report, as promised! Buckle down (or just keep scrolling, if you dont really care much about the Pokermen), because this is a long post. I wanted to use a Smeargle with Dark Void and moody to troll casual players, but I didnt see a single casual player. As such, it was serious business, and I decided to drop my idea and fight honorably. In the Round Robin, I was assigned to Block D, where people started to hype me as the best trainer in the world, before I even battled them. The pressure was already on at that point, as I had expectations. I tried to lighten the mood by saying whoever won the block represented us at the top 8 - block D 4 Lyfe! My pool was a pool of 8 players, so I had 7 battles to do before moving on to the single elimination. My team was my YAMA doubles team with some modifications, Melvin (Mega Ampharos) lead the charge with PommeDeTerre (Aromatisse), Kreig (Shiny Clawitzer - I hatched a shiny one AFTER the tournament in an egg I had leftover), Eeks (Rotom Oven/Heat), with Sandson (The scizor that was bare;y useful) and Momiji (The kangaskhan I never used because it was designed for singles and was too squishy for doubles.) More detailed description of my team in images. Speaking of our Australian powerhouse I fought many Kangaskhans this tournament (or at least more than I wish I had to) and my initial strategy was to use Eeks to burn them and shut them down. I saved every replay I had there and will share it with you all, so instead of explaining what happened in the battle, you can watch the replay. Now on to the good stuff. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My first battle - Victory Vs. Ninten (FP6G-WWWW-WWW6-584U) PommeDeTerre, Melvin, Kreig, Eeks vs Scizor, Tyranitar, Aegislash, Garchomp Oh boy. As soon as I saw this guy I thought to myself I was in for trouble. With Sandstorm team and strong pokemon in the mix, It was basically a Generation 5 VGC Worlds team + Aegislash. He was a threatening first battle for sure. My major comment about this one is that this guy was scary, but I was able to handle it because of my seeing this team or similar teams quite a lot, despite giving up weather control via not having weather of my own. MVPs: Just look at how little Potato cares about getting smacked by stones. He did his job fantastically with the screens and the room of trickiness. Melvin was able to dispatch threats comfortably as well, caring little about their attacks, super effective or otherwise. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My second Battle - Victory Vs. Ian (4P5G-WWWW-WWW6-5856) PommeDeTerre, Melvin, Kreig, Eeks vs Tyrantrum, Mawile, Hawlucha, Greninja I liked this guy. He went with a team he crafted with originality in mind, avoiding the cookie cutter pokemon sets. I really respect his battle style as well. Kudos to him for a ninja moveset on his Greninja (That actually works). I really liked his use of Toxic Spikes and trying to force switches with smokescreen, but he might have needed something bulkier to use that strategy with. Ugh, my Thunderbolt miss was a mild inconvenience, but was really funny. Apparently Mat block surprised everyone in my block. His Tyrantrum and mawile scared me because they could be fast in trick room, but thankfully Melvin likes to take things at his own pace (slowly) and gets to go first under the influence of trick room. Im suprised I wasnt played with roughly in that match. MVPs: Again, my French Potato was able to shut down my opponent well, taking Unburden and turned it to Burdenate. Kudos for Melvin for 2HKOing a Mega Mawile, who in Doubles is usually built to be more bulky than offensive. My Third Battle - Victory Vs Sarah (6VUW-WWWW-WWW6-585A) PommeDeTerre, Melvin, Kreig, Eeks vs Ampharos, Lopunny, Roserade, Krookodile My favorite part of this battle was the turn where Dragon Pulses flew everywhere. It was like Star Wars, except the lasers were actually hitting something. Not much to say about this one, but that Roserade was scary. Krookodile was scary too because of its ground typing and Outrage. Im glad PommeDeTerre was on the KO priority over Melvin though. MVPs: Melvin gets MVP once more with its taking hits without a care in the world. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My Fourth Battle - Loss Vs Malevolence (BGMW-WWWW-WWW6-585N) PommeDeTerre, Melvin, Kreig, Eeks vs Salamence, Azumarill, Aegislash, Kangaskhan Another team with common pokemon, but this time full of counters to my pokemon. I did not like his team one bit as soon as I saw it and I knew I was in for a wild ride. His Azumarill is a problem to my Ampharos with Play Rough and Aqua Jet to bypass my trick room, Salamence added pressure to Ampharos with high speed and Draco Meteor to take down everyone on my team bar PommeDeTerre. His Kangaskhan served as a problem to everyone I had but Eeks, with the ability to take down anything with one or two attacks, and his Aegislash was annoying, but was the least threatening. My anti-kangaskhan strategy failed because I failed to predict that his Kangaskhan to lead and who they were going to focus. As such, he dismantled my early team, and let the rest of his pokemon do the dirty work. At this battle, I decided to just throw Kreig out and try to KO it before it could do any more damage than it already has, and save Eeks for the Azumarill. Reflecting back on this battle, I really needed to have saved the Melvin/PommeDeTerre for later. MVPs: Kreig was a champ this battle, being pretty good at taking shadow balls, and denting Azumarill despite its lack of neutral or super effective moves (It was Melvins job... D:) Though I prayed that he could take a Draco Meteor (Which he did, but cant fight two pokemon at once without any air support) An added note: This guy made it to the Top 8 with me. Block D 4 Lyfe! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My Fifth Battle - Victory Vs Murshid (WKYG-WWWW-WWW6-585U) PommeDeTerre, Sandson, Kreig, Eeks VS Aggron, Machamp, Dragonite, Whimsicott This was a rough battle. Not only did I forget that I had Lum berry on my scizor instead of a mega stone, but it was unable to do significant damage to its target. (CURSE YOU MULTISCALE) I was really banking on lack of fire punch, then I realized. Pokemon Bank. The roughness went away when my opponent made a few tactical errors. He was new to the ability Aroma Veil, wasting two moves on Whimsicott, then he paralyzed the majority of my team, effectively making them faster in my trick room. His Mega Aggron wasnt as scary as I thought it would be. Thanks, Kreig! He forfeit the match because he had to leave, and knew I had already won (Those were his words, not mine, I swear.) MVPs: PommeDeTerres Aroma Veil really shut down his Whimsicott and was a champ at taking the unusual role of attacking foes and dealing rather significant damage (Rather than poking a bit and helping others get their OHKOs) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My Sixth Battle - Victory Vs Buddha (4HAG-WWWW-WWW6-5864) PommeDeTerre, Melvin, Sandson, Kreig VS Jolteon, Diggersby, Venusaur, Slowking Man. I never would have thought Mold Breaker would be useful here. He predicted my Thunderbolt on his Slowking and went to his Volt Absorb Jolteon, only to be chipped at with a strong thunderbolt to a relatively squishy pokemon, even if it was resisted, it did some okay damage. PommeDeTerre was pretty limited in usage this time, since they knew the threat lied in my dual screens. His Mega Venusaur was a lot squishier than I thought, and my flinch on Jolteon might have mattered, though thinking back, I remember that it was a misclick (I wanted Dragon Pulse, but thanks anyway, Based Anna!) MVPs: Sandson came in handy in this battle and this battle alone, striking at Slowking hard and having the right item and moves for the job. Krieg gets a high five (claw?) for helping out till the end. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My Seventh Battle - Victory VS Quack (N92W-WWWW-WWW6-586A) PommeDeTerre, Melvin, Krieg, Eeks VS Dragonite, Krookodile, Mawile, Talonflame Uh oh. Talonflame! I knew it wouldnt be that bad though, since I had some counters to it (Defense invested Clawitzer and Eeks), and the fact that its doubles and I can focus it down. I really dig the name she had for Mawile, (Mike Tyson) because ear biting. Hah! (I called mine Stapler-San because it reminded me of a Stapler. And that one Youtube video I saw. youtube/watch?v=i1DZU4Dtv0M Can someone PLEASE explain to me why the heck this video exists?) I knew Mawile was trouble, and I had to preserve Eeks at all costs. Even if it meant that Melvin had to take a hit to the face for a free switch in or as a decoy for it, depending on who it KOs first. At first I laughed at Tailwind, then I realized the tailwind would indeed serve my opponent rather than hurt her. MVPs: Eeks takes the spotlight today with its sheer importance in shutting down the physical pokemon and fighting a Krookodile mono-a-mono. (Eeks is a supporter, and was not meant to duel anyone.) Kreig gets another high claw for confusing the Dragonite, who would have been a huge issue to me. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With that, my trials in Block D come to an end. I moved on to the Top 8! Quarter finals - Victory VS Asher (FLEW-WWWW-WWW6-586D) LOL FLEW PommeDeTerre, Eeks, Melvin, Kreig VS Talonflame, Kangaskhan, Rotom(Wash), Espeon I first thought in this battle I already lost after the first few turns. However, I followed my Samurai code and fought hard till the very end. There were some interesting duels here. We have Espeon and PommeDeTerre with the screen wars, trying to set up screens and support the team and such, while we have the two rotoms trying to prove which one is better. Kreig was assigned to Anti-Khan duty again, with Aura Sphere to chip away at it despite screens. Fake Out was a major pain though. PommeDeTerre stayed in on the kangaskhan because I needed reflect at all costs. Unfortunately, they really wanted Kreig dead, and it happened eventually. Once KAngaskhan was burned, it was pretty much smooth sailing for me. I threw in a protect fabulously for Eeks and made sure it survived as long as possible, but I wasted an overheat because I didnt expect a crit from Moonblast. Better safe than dead, right? It turned into prediction and counterplay for the second half of the battle rather than my usual care about nothing and charge in all-out approach, which worked out. MvPs: PommeDeTerre and Eeks really stuck it out to the end, but it was quite obvious that PommeDeTerre was largely ignored that battle, which eventually costed her the match. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Semi finals - Loss VS Ian (Not the one from Block D) (GVZW-WWWW-WWW6-586Q) PommeDeTerre, Kreig, Eeks, Melvin VS Kangaskhan, Thundurus, Amoongus, Rotom(Wash) This was the most embarrassing loss I have had in a while, but Ill share it anyway. This guy was already on my threat list, as he was undefeated in his block (Its not hard to see why, using very powerful pokemon with a play-to-win mindset rather than to have fun. Though he did have fun by stomping people.) I did not like the looks on his team, as it had two pokemon that were so overwhelming that they were banished from the realms of Smogon University (May I mention that he actually is a staff member there? Because he sure did to me.) The slaughter started with a beat down on Kreig. I really did not mean to lead with him, but I decided to cut my losses and fight with him. Besides, if I wanted to change my lead, I risk him countering my changed lead. Being the bulky monster that it is, Mega Kangaskhan survived a Aura Sphere with a little health left. He then dismantled Krieg and PommeDeTerre and said GG. At this point I thought to myself that I absolutely could not afford to lose. Not after that early GG. Things went from bad to grim on that turn as I predicted the wrong rushdown target, and protected with Melvin when he wasnt meant to be hit. He landed a critical hit on Eeks, which really mattered, as it was DESIGNED to fight Mega Kangaskhan with its high defense and the fact that it would KO it that turn. He said that it didnt matter, but he was already at this point simply celebrating his victory and rubbing it in. Whether he meant to salt my wounds or not, he certainly did. He lands another critical hit on my Ampharos with superpower, which while it didnt matter in the outcome of the match, it still rustled my jimmies because I would have survived, and taken down Kangaskhan that turn too. I know that if he didnt critical hit my Rotom, things might have gone differently. With a -2 Attack Landorus on his side and a dead Kangaskhan, his Rotom would do nothing to me, no matter what dirty tricks rotom-wash would usually bring. His Amoongus would do equally less, even if it had Rage Powder (Dragon Pulse and sky high special attack) or Spore (not care at all, as he would be eating an overheat or a Dragon Pulse while sporing me.) Ill not mention his boasting and self-promotion though, in case he somehow manages to find this post and decides to punch me for it. After the match he kept going on about how it was a good match. As Basilio from Fire Emblem would say My Big Brown Feroxi Arse. MVPs: Kreig for landing the only hit and surviving a Thunderbolt from a Thundurus.
