Heres some news for you all re this Thursday 2nd Oct at 11am in Holywood Town Centre. Lets give them a BIG warm Holywood welcome :-) Mari ROYAL SCOTS BORDERERS WELCOMED TO HOLYWOOD At the invitation of North Down Borough Council, The Royal Scots Borderers will be welcomed to their new home in Holywood with a parade through Holywood with Regimental Band and Pipes and Drums. The Battalion – known as 1 Scots – have moved from Edinburgh to make North Down their new home as part of 38 (Irish) Brigade. A light role infantry battalion with heavy operational commitments, the Royal Scots Borderers have already cemented links across Northern Ireland with the Pipes and Drums taking part in the Belfast Tattoo and the battalion running a major all arms exercise at Magilligan and Binevenagh Mountain in the north west. The Commanding Officer Lt Col Matt Munro says that the welcome for soldiers and their families in Northern Ireland has greatly assisted the Battalion to settle in at Palace Barracks: “The Royal Scots Borderers are delighted to call Holywood their new home. Since my soldiers and their families arrived in the summer, the local community have gone out of their way to make us all feel very welcome. We are much enjoying exploring the local area and are making full use of what Northern Ireland has to offer. It is a great privilege to be invited to parade The Royal Scots Borderers through Holywood and I hope that this event marks the beginning of friendship between the townspeople and the Battalion.” The Mayor of North Down Borough Council, Councillor Peter Martin said: “It is with great pride that I will be taking the salute with members of the The Royal Scots Borderers to officially welcome them to their new home in Holywood. The parade is our opportunity to honour and celebrate our servicemen and women who are serving throughout the world on behalf of their country. This occasion is also a time to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for us. The Mayor added: I would like to encourage residents of the Borough to come along and show their support by offering the troops a warm and memorable welcome.” ENDS Editors Notes The Royal Regiment of Scotland is an infantry regiment forming a core part of the British Armys combat capability.
