Heres some very rare footage of the great gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt that Ive posted before...but I want you to pay special attention here to his guitar technique...and notice that he uses only TWO of the fingers on his left hand -- his index finger and his middle finger -- to do the complex fretwork required of this type of music. His ring finger and his pinky were injured (paralyzed) in a caravan fire when he was just 18. Every so often I find myself in a gypsy jazz mood...and I guess tonight is one of those nights. On January 23 its Djangos birthday. He wouldve turned 105. Unfortunately he is among the many jazz artists that we lost too soon...he passed away in 1953 when he was just 43 years young.
