Heres the game. I write a story fragment, then you comment and describe ONE action you (as the character) are taking to forward the story. The comment with the most likes in the course of a couple days will win the action, and the story will continue based on that action. It will take Jake and his men at least twenty minutes to catch up if they take the shortest path around the shore. That will give me just enough time to get into the house, find Phineass laboratory and whatever notes he left behind, and with any luck get back out before they arrive. I head toward the house, moving as quickly as I dare in the darkness. _____________ Continued: You approach the dark and foreboding house with deliberate (but cautious) speed. The mist swirls around it as if with a life of its own. By the time you reach the gate, you begin to hear a soft voice. “Alfred?” Squinting, you can just see the soft glow of candlelight held by the silhouette of a hunched figure. The figure is standing just outside a doorway on the side of the house. “Alfred, is that you? Where are you, Alfred?” You approached the house as silently as you could, so you don’t think you could have alerted anyone to your presence…you don’t think, anyway. Slowly you lay your hands on the gate. It softly groans from the movement. The hinges are rusted and old. You know that if you throw it open, it will make a loud racket. What do you do next?
