Hey Taft High Class of 1978 (Lincoln City, Oregon). I had a nice long talk with Dustin Ticknor this evening. He is Ricky’s only son and 23 years old. He sounds like a nice young man who is handling this loss of his father very well. Kris Leetch found this article: [ PUBLICATION: Dalles Chronicle, The (The Dalles, OR) SECTION: News DATE: April 26, 2013 A The Dalles man was LifeFlighted to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center Thursday evening from rural The Dalles after a motorcycle crash. Ricky Ticknor was riding a motorcycle and keeping pace with his son, Dustin Ticknor, with their pet dog running alongside, according to a report from the Wasco County Sheriff s office. Dustin reportedly passed his father and created some distance, when Rickys motorcycle wheel struck the dog with its front tire, causing the crash near the intersection of Obrist and Dutch Flat roads. The victim was unconscious and breathing at the time of the initial report. He was transported to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center for treatment. Ticknor was in critical condition at Emanuel this morning at press time.] Dustin said his father suffered severe head trauma, broken ribs and a punctured lung. He spent the next 4-5 months in the hospital in ICU and trac-u (sp?). After a time they decided no more surgeries. He’d developed the ability to track people and move his left hand, arm and leg, but lost all use of his right side. Eventually he was off of the oxygen but still had a feeding tube. He was eventually moved to a Skilled Nursing Facility in Hood River. About two months ago he aspirated and was not able to clear it, and so it goes back in to the lungs. He developed pneumonia and was hospitalized. A Neurosurgeon evaluation didn’t expect any additional improvements after six months. He went back to the Skilled Facility and about 10 days ago it happened again, resulting in another pneumonia hospitalization. He returned to the Skilled Nursing Facility and lost his battle on November 14th at 8:48 a.m. Ricky was cremated and did not want a funeral. He wanted people to gather and celebrate his life sharing stories and such. It sounds like Dustin’s mother has plans for a Celebration of Life on November 23rd in Hood River at the Skilled Nursing Facility. The Staff and other residents were very fond of Ricky, so they felt this would be the best place. He doesn’t have a time yet, but noted that it will be a potluck. He will get back to me with a time as soon as he knows. Michelle.
