Hey, this club is cool! Just in case you havent noticed that yet, here are the minutes from the last meeting in September. This coming Tuesday is the Halloween party. Should be some good pictures coming here from that, we believe. ---------------------- Dunkirk Garden Club meeting: Tuesday, September 23th, 2014 The club met at the Ada location of New Leaf Landscape Garden Center. Laurie Laird demonstrated the making of holiday burlap trees using tomato cages, burlap squares, duct tape, staples and twine. Laurie then topped the tree using seasonal ribbon, greenery, etc, attached to a shower curtain ring, making it easy to convert from one holiday to the next. Members present for the meeting were Betty, Jerelyn, Darlene, Teressa, Mary, Rhonda, Kathy and Wendy. Also present were Linda Gibson, Leslie McCleese, Carol Friesner, Kathryn Pees, all guests of Mary, and Jenn and Owen Crooks, guests of Kathy. Following the presentation at New Leaf, the club reconvened at Viva Maria Italian Restaurant in Ada to enjoy some delicious food and conduct the business meeting. Secretary’s report: Last month’s report was read . . . blah, blah, blah. Treasurer’s report: Yeah, we got some money. Old Business: Betty reported that next year the fair booth committee should purchase some waterproof black liner or tarp for the floor of the booth. This year black trash bags were used and did not work well. Wendy reported that the box containing reusable items for the booth and the garden club booth sign are both being stored in her granary in the gardening bin. Also for future reference, the colors used on the building façade in the booth are Sherwin Williams Green Sprout # 7728 and SW Antique Red # 7587. Congratulations were given to Betty, Teressa, Joan and Carol, this year’s booth committee, for their First Place winning efforts. Betty also thanked club members for contributing flowers for the booth. Betty reported that this year at the fair the Dunkirk Garden Club earned 31 First Place ribbons, 16 Second Place ribbons, 4 Third Place ribbons and 4 Grand Champion ribbons. Taking the Grand Champion honors were Clair Wilson, earning two, Kathy Born, and the club for our First Place booth. Congratulations were given to all contributors. Mary reported that she passed on our club’s suggestions for next year’s fair to Dave McPheron of the Men’s Garden Club. New Business: Next month’s annual costume party/meeting will be held on October 28th at 7 PM at the home of Betty McCullough. A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Darlene and seconded by Kathy. Respectfully submitted: Wendy Morin
