Hi Group, Being older than most of you, this ‘race report’ - TopicsExpress

Hi Group, Being older than most of you, this ‘race report’ writing is pretty new to me. Hopefully, aside from some other pictures that might show up, this will be the end of mine. :) Feel free to skip it... Looking at the Dome… Back in the early 80’s I grew up running track ultras. Dan Brannen conned me into running my 1st 24Hr on an indoor 7 lap to the mile dirt track in Haverford, PA. The next year, it was changed to 48Hr and I moved up. Some guys named Ray K and Laz ran there also. While one of them set the AR around 217 miles, the other went on to write about his dog. By 84, I moved across the river from Philly to run my 1st Weston 6 Day in Pennsauken, NJ directed by Ed Dodd. (In preperation for that, Bob Huggins and I directed the 1st Dawn to Dusk Ultras.) Along with others, I met Don Choi, Jim Shapiro, and Richard Innamorato there. Although I didnt know it so much at the time, they would have big influences on my running. Over the rest of the decade, I had some relative success on that cinder track in Jersey - winning twice and getting my PR of 475 miles in 89. Along with my Transcon run in 90, it was probably the biggest reason, I never really had the urge to go run in the woods. That’s the backdrop I had when Joe Fejes and I started talking about the possibility of a track ultra a year ago. I had helped crew Joe at Vol State last year and we talked about Stu’s overall 577 AR. Stu had set the record on an indoor track, and we felt that was the best set up because it took away the weather as a factor. Once the Dome was booked, I knew I’d be going. It would give me the opportunity to run another 6 Day race on a track. At 62, with my best running days behind me, I knew I couldn’t play with the big boys. My goal from the start was Clarence Richey’s AG AR 339+. If nothing else, I was pretty steady... First 3 days = 171.93 Second 3 days = 168.59 Day 1 70.67 Day 2 51.14 Day 3 50.11 Day 4 52.68 Day 5 56.28 Day 6 59.63 Total 340.52
