Since I began filming LAPA: The Heart of Samba in the summer of 2010, it has been an amazing journey of synchronicity, good will, beautiful music and stunning images! My full-length film features exceptionally talented composers and musicians that represent the best of the new generation in Rio de Janeiro. I hope that, like me, you will find their story an inspiring one. For them, samba is a way of life, so it is important not only the fact that they revived their abandoned neighborhood, but HOW they did it. Your contribution helps to tell their exciting story! LAPA: The Heart of Samba is a project that I have largely funded myself, with a third of the support coming from friends, family and people interested in Brazilian culture. Thanks to these generous supporters, I have been able to hire a masterful crew to shoot, transcribe, and begin editing 80 hours of exciting footage and music. Accomplished American pandeiro player, Scott Feiner, moved to Rio de Janeiro in 2001 and turned his video camera on the musicians in Lapa in Rio de Janeiro. JUST THIS WEEK, he offered some of the footage from his unfinished documentary to be used in my film, LAPA: The Heart of Samba! He recorded a pivotal time in Lapa, and this will be dramatic archival footage for my film! I cannot wait to share the film with you, but still have a bit further to go to complete the final edit.
