Hi all. I have been so anxious today to post an update on the girls because some exciting things have been happening but, of course, that pesky thing called a job and work takes a front seat. If youve been following the progress of the girls you already know that Sam was the first to come around as far as bonding with me and Ellie consistently has shied away, wont let me near her and in the rare event she was close enough for me to touch, she would react to my touch as if it were burning acid, cowering and jerking away. Everything has changed in the last 48 hours since the girls went in for their spay procedures. The first night Ellie was home and still doped up, she reluctantly let me pet and scratch her head while sort of trapped in her kennel without a way to back up. It was the first time in 17 days she allowed me to touch her at all. She seemed to enjoy having her head and neck scratched. Last night I spent a couple hours with them in their new spot in the garage and was so incredibly happy to not only be petting and scratching Ellies head but also petting her back and scratching her chest and belly and all of this while outside of her crate. The same exact feelings I got when Sam first allowed me to pet her whole body came back last night when Ellie first allowed me to do the same. I went home to check on them during my lunch hour this afternoon and was very pleased to find she is consistently now allowing me to pet her whether she is in her crate or standing outside of it. Today she even let me take her head in both my hands and....are you ready for this...? While I did not get an actual tail wag from Ellie today, I DID see what Ill call some tail flinching Definitely some tail movement. I cant put into words what a big step this is for this little girl. Its beyond huge. Not to leave Sam out, she continues to progress every day. Sams tail constantly wags whenever I am around her or even so much as look her way and she is now also wagging her tail when Billy approaches her too. She also lets Billy pet her and scratch her head and she will take treats from him. And the biggest thing for me with Sam, she is now completely comfortable with me being in very close proximity to her and while she had her head to my head last night, she had no problem with me planting a small little kiss on her adorable little nose. For everybody who told me all the worrying I did about them going to have their procedures done was for nothing, you were right. For everyone who told me they would come home from those procedures and somehow feel closer to me, you were right. Somehow the whole process of taking them to the vet and bringing them home and putting them in the garage, a new location, has caused them to make leaps and bounds in the last two days. I am beyond happy with this progress and anxiously await, with renewed hope, any additional gift these girls choose to give us.
