Hi darling... Here I am again talking to you in my mind, This war in Afghanistan is coming along just fine, They say we will all be home in almost no time, My time in the Corps is really starting to shine. Darling... I am having this dream nightly, And this is causing me a lot of grief, It is the same dream all of the time, It always comes and is slow to leave. Darling... in it... you’re dressed in your very best, And you look so sad, there among the rest, Just sitting... silent... with your head bowed, But your not alone... for the family are around. Darling... you always lift your tear-filled face, Reaching for something that I just can’t place, My dream was clearer tonight, it gave me an awful fright, How clear things are now darling, I am not there with you tonight. Please always remember my kisses upon your dear face, I am finally able to see what before I could not place, For in your trembling hands... darling... you cradle my Beret Green, Dearest wife, I never thought I’d come home, again, never to be seen.
