Hi everyone! Im a relatively new shooter looking at jumping into competitive shooting, and Im looking for some advice. I want to do competitive shooting as a way to practice, improve my skills, and have fun--not necessarily to win matches, although thatd be nice. ;) For competitions, I plan on shooting the gun I carry every day, an M&P 9c. That way I get more practice with it. I think I have almost everything I need, except magazine holders. I have a strong-side IWB holster (StealthGear, which I really like), four magazines (plus two without the finger extension if I need them), and some pretty standard foam ear plugs. The magazine holder I use for my every day carry is one of those horizontal MagHolder deals, which I know wont work in IDPA matches, plus I need more than one holder. What magazine holders can you recommend? Ideally, Id like something I could also use in my EDC if I wanted to, but thats not a strict requirement. Ive checked out StealthGears mag carriers online, since I like my Onyx holster so much, but I wanted to get recommendations on other holders before committing to that. I also have a couple 17 round magazines from the full size M&P 9. Does IDPA rule 8.2.1.3.20 mean that I can use these with my compact in the SSP division? What about other non-IDPA matches? Can anyone recommend eye protection that works well over prescription glasses? I havent come across any yet. Are there any matches that are better for beginners? I noticed some dont allow first-time shooters, but other than that, is any match a good match for newbies? Finally, sorry for the wall of text. I just dont want to show up to my first match and look like a complete idiot. :)
