Hi just got off the phone with the owner of Green Pasture Products specifically the Fermented Cod Liver Oil and he was telling me how they ferment it in big steel barrells and how it is pharmaceutically tested and FDA approved. The fermentation helps extract the lipids or oils from the cod livers thru an enzyematic process for about 4 to 6 months. He said there are other quicker methods but this tends to preserve the nutrients plus gives you the good bacteria. I have noticed many sites making negative comments about this Blue Ice Fermented Cod Liver Oil so I had to call and ask for myself. The image of it it rotting in wooden barrells is one often mentioned. Now I know it is done in stainless steel very clean vats and it is tested often and the final product has to be FDA approved for human consumption. We also discussed the nutrient content and that is why I posted this article because though it has Omega 3 in it, compared to these fish here it is not as high, however these mentioned are just the fish and not the concentrated fat from the liver of the fish and Dave said that could be higher. The cod liver oil content of omega 3 is about 35% and is quite high in vitamin A and D along with DHA and EPA.
