Hi, my beautiful Town~ Neighbors; thats what we are. Im writing this to ask that we all be more mindful of this fact. We all have a singular story of loss due to the hurricane, but collectively, weve all suffered the same. It does not matter if youve been here for 2 years or several generations; everyone in our town has experienced loss. Behind every problem here in town there is a person. A REAL person. Behind every building, a person who is trying to make a living or who lost everything they worked so hard for . Behind every house, a family trying to come home or one who struggled to be home now or one who lost EVERYTHING and will never come home again. Behind every disturbance, a Police Officer or a Volunteer Fireman trying to make life better. Behind our town, elected leaders who choose to devote their time without compensation. In the last few months Ive had to defend from PERSONAL attacks here: -Skip & Donna from the now closed Sandwitch Shop. -Danny at the Windansea & Doug at The Inlet Cafe. -Candidates for Highlands government during the election. -Tinker of the beautiful Purple Workshop. -Myself for trying to give away free furniture. And these are only the ones Ive personally seen. Enough. No more. The people listed above are long~time, some life~long, people of Highlands. They are the foundation, the ones whove quietly helped so many people after the flood. They deserve better. You cant continue to complain here while doing nothing to help. You cant presume to know what youre talking about when you have no idea what youre talking about. You cant continually use empty phrases such as, In my humble opinion (ha! humble!) or just having a discussion when the object of your vitriol is not even part of the discussion. No more. Dissent is healthy; hell, its American. Just keep it general, please, not personal. And the next time you posit things that have no basis in knowledge or fact, refrain from posting it here in this very public community until you are absolutely sure you know what the hell youre talking about. Remember that there is a PERSON with history & feelings attached to every situation. Admin, feel free to delete this. I felt it needed to be said. with love for my town, danielle
