Hi my name is Hannah Mackay. I work as a resource technician at Oaklands College, Smallford, St Albans. I work in the landmark department. Landmark is a learning department for students with a diverse level of moderate learning difficulties / disabilities. We help students develop life skills, and also teach them to look after and care for animals. We are in the process of setting up a small holding of chickens, ducks and geese. Here, the students can learn to interact, care for and look after the live stock. In return the animals produce eggs that the students can sell at the local market. This helps the students interact with the public and gives them confidence when interacting with the wider community. The money from the eggs will help to buy the animals feed and maintain the equipment. Any money left over from these expenses, will then go towards special outings/day trips for the students to enjoy. We are a self sufficient department and therefore, I am appealing to peoples kinder side in asking for donations. We are asking if people would be kind enough to donate, chicken huts, feeders, drinkers and any sort of first aid equipment that we may need too help us get started. We have been given some huts but they are second hand and falling apart and we do not have the resources to repair them. We would be grateful of any donation. I am not asking for you to donate it all just if someone was able to donate something, it would really help to get us started, thereby rewarding the students in the long run. Kind regards Hannah
