Hmmm.. Id say its a bay area thing.. But I have friends that love Oak (usually theyre from around the Bay area so they dont know) and love it. Id have to say its not very friendly.. Try saying hello, or waving at someone, or leave your door unlocked on your car, or (I could keep going). You wont see names on homes, you will see 10 fences, you wont know the neighbors on your block (unless your lucky). Youll find prison bars on the windows in many homes/businesses. If theres a peaceful protest at a city within 100 miles, Oakland will participate (not so peacefully). Lots of people seem to think someone or something is out to get them, theyll feel theyve been wronged in some way. Its expensive. They hate the middle class, unions, workers, and like CEOs (as long as they dont move into your neighborhood). Many dislike and distrust the police. Their mayor is a texting, red light running clueless lady. If a neighborhood improves or overall wealth increases they call it gentrification because their life has not improved. *shrug* Oak is a pretty city, but sit on a corner and just watch people, you couldnt make some of the stuff you see up.. Oh my, I did keep going.. Maybe some day Oak will be nice, and maybe not the most unfriendly.
