How can you tell Im going a little stir crazy with all of this snow! A little story and will be interested in the comments that may come. In the fall I was raking leaves and was approached by my neighbors kids asking if I wanted to hire them to rake or shovel in the winter. I told them that I was almost finished with fall clean up however would like to discuss shovelling. I asked how much theyd charge. They sheepishly said $5. I giggled because I have a lot of shovelling to do (more than $5 worth). I showed them what was involved and proposed that I pay them $200 per month, whether it snowed or not. I told them I would hire them from Nov.-Mar. and that at the end of the winter, they could make $1000.00 but they would have to check with parents to make sure OK). They just about fell over! I also told them I would reach out to one of my BFFs who lives next door and ask if he wanted a similar agreement.....he agreed. I however made it very clear, they would need to shovel EVERYTIME it did snow. I am so proud of these kids for taking the initiative...as I dont see that with kids these days. Reminds me of when I was a kid! We actually had to work for our money! Over the last few snowfalls, I have come home to clean sidewalks, driveway and deck...again SOOOO PROUD OF THESE BOYS!....until yesterday! They didnt show, so I shovelled (not big deal), however was a little disappointed and was going to have a conversation and let them figure out the consequence. Mother Nature took care of that. Fast forward to today.....OH MY! The snow! The temperature....brrr! Guess who showed up and started digging! Yup! Felt sorry for them as I have a snow blower in the garage, but there are consequences when an agreement is made. I did make them shovel for about 45 min.....and then told them.....do the public walks and tomorrow well bring out the snow blower for the rest. It was cute to see the relief on their faces! Curious to hear what comments might come my way. I love the initiative of these boys.....I dont see that often with kids these days.
