How to waste 12 hours of leave and $200+: 1. Drive to work Thursday and have Low Fuel light illuminate...no big deal, happened 100 other times. Plan on refilling on way home. 2. Go to lunch, have truck die with 1/8th tank of diesel (never happened before). 3. Listen for fuel pump noise from tank...nothing. Lift pump...OK. Check fuses..none. Swap relay...nada. 4. Get towed home. 5. Clean out garage enough to actually have room to work. 6. Remove camper shell. 7. Remove bed. 8. Remove 4 wire sending unit/fuel pump. 9. Notice tank is EMPTY!!! 10. Test pump out of tank...nada. 11. Drive 30 minutes to get new pump. 12. Put gas in tank. 13. Install pump. 14. Test new pump..NADA! 15. Go to bed. 16. Look for wiring diagrams on line... cant find. 17. Call friend with Cummins expertise. 18. Learn they didnt COME with fuel pumps in the tank, only lift pump. 19. Realize NEW pump is now restricting flow of fuel to lift pump. 20. Trace wires from tank to lift pump. 21. Wire tank pump to lift pump. 22. Test new pump configuration. 23. Wrap all exposed wires. 24. Reinstall bed. Job done. BTW...Im only on #19 right now. Back to work (in the garage). 12 hours of leave wasted because a sending unit failed. Shit!!x
