Howdy my Friends, and followers of my LA Groovin Album Project :) Heres a little Audio Peek at the 16th (and last....I think) tune for this album..........but after 10 long years of Creative Sterility, if an idea wants to come through then Im going to let it.........but at least I have actually started the Mixing process. This track is entitled Santa Monica Sunset, and is a mixture of influences...........very Donald Fagen/Steely Dan (as always). The Groove is a nod to Donalds track Snowbound from the Kamakiriad Album from the early 90s, but the visual imagery as I was writing it comes from a lazy Sunday afternoon spent at Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles when I was living there with Jeff Baxter many years ago. Jeff had gone out to either a Gig or a Session, and I was lounging around his place in Bel Air and decided to put on Steely Dans Album Gaucho. The opening track from this Record is Babylon Sisters, and if you know the track, the opening line of the Lyric is ....Drive West on Sunset to the Sea......, and given we lived about 2 blocks from Sunset Blvd I jumped in my Car and did exactly that :) It was the first time in my Life that I had ever seen a Sunset over the Ocean, and the image stuck with me and has come to represent much of what I loved about living in California............I hope you enjoy it :) Im moving well and truly into the Mixing phase of this Project now, so stay tuned for further updates, and I hope to have the Album all finished early in the New Year.........
