Human Trafficking Task Force Works For Public Awareness: LITTLE ROCK, AR - Members of a legislatively mandated task force studying human trafficking in Arkansas said Tuesday greater public awareness is needed to combat the crime. Will Jones, assistant attorney general, and co-chair for the State Task Force for the Prevention of Human Trafficking, says a group of more than 40 law enforcement, state agency representatives and victim advocates are working on a report due out later this fall. It has been a hot topic and sometimes those things can come and go, Jones says. But unfortunately this is one of those areas that if the public is not aware, if our eyes arent open, if were not looking beneath the surface, then the criminals are going to win. Jones says the task force will submit a state plan to prevent trafficking to the governor later this year. The general assembly could take action with stricter regulations when the legislature convenes in January 2015.
