Hundreds of supporters turned out to the First United Methodist Church Saturday evening for the Glow for Elizabeth glow walk fundraiser. The event included a 1 mile glow walk as well as hot dogs and hamburgers, an inflatable for the kids, face painting, a silent auction and bake sale, and live entertainment from several local musicians including Vince Dodd, Mark and Tabitha McWherter, and Randall and Alley French. The event was held in honor of Elizabeth Cronin, a 10 year old Paris Elementary student who was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Event organizers Cassie Moody Weatherly and Katherine Grooms said they initially just planned to host the 1 mile walk and sell T-shirts, but the community responded strongly with dozens of individuals willing to volunteer their time, and the event continued to grow. Community support, according to several of the volunteers and eventgoers, was especially bolstered by Elizabeth’s popularity within the community. Said one glow walk participant, one of Elizabeth’s teachers at Paris Elementary School, “We all just love Elizabeth”. At press time, exact fundraising totals were unavailable, but the event was extremely well-attended from 5 PM until the glow walk at 8, and all event organizers and volunteers viewed the fundraiser as a huge success.
