Hæc est dies, quam fecit Dominus: exultemus, et lætemur in ea. (Psalmus 118 (117):24) Today, the One, Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church in the Philippines celebrates the Feast of Santo Niño de Cebu y de Manila, the Cause of our Faith in this Frontier of Catholic Christianity in Asia. Unlike the previous years, we also celebrate today the high point activities of His Holiness Pope Francis, the Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Jesus Christ, Successor of the Prince of the Apostles, Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Sovereign of the Vatican City State, Servant of the servants of God, in his five-day state and apostolic visit to the Philippine Islands. As we once encounter with the Representative of Christ on earth whether in our televisions or in our personal interaction either in the University of Santo Tomas, the Royal and Pontifical Catholic University of the Philippines, for the Youth Encounter or at the Rizal National Park for the Pontifical Mass that will mark the end of his journey, let us pray for our Church as it prepares to celebrate its 500th year in 2021 that we might be able to share whatever graces we have received in this apostolic visit of the Vicar of Christ and that may our Catholic Christian faith may be revived and strengthened especially among the poor, the oppressed, the neglected, those who left the Church and those who hate her.
