I AM A LIBERIAN: A celebration of Liberia and Liberians By: Menipakei Dumoe I owe my being to the Kpelleh, Gola, Lorma, Kru, Bassa and other proud tribes who fell victim to the bloody sibling warfare that colored the beginning of this country. I was formed by former slaves who had been rudely uprooted from across Africa to satisfy the cruel and unholy thirst for wealth on both sides of the Atlantic. The men seeking Liberty laid the basis for my existence. I stretch from the beautiful shores of Roberts Port to the breath taking beaches of Beautiful Grand Bassa. I raise as high as the Mountain Wologizi and fall gracefully on the flat planes of Montserrado. I speak Kissi, Kpelle, Gio, Krahn, Kru, Sapo, Grebbo, Mandingo, English and many other beautiful languages. I am Rich with Gold, Diamond, Oil and Iron ore. I am covered with forest and blessed with many rivers and ocean filled with a rich bio diversity. I am the grand child of those men who came from as far as Barbados to answer the call of establishing the first negro republic. I approach the world with the tenacity of Tubman, the intellect of Tolbert and the bravery of Madam Suakoko. I am the great grand Child of King Suaboswen and the son of the warriors of the Kpelleh People. My knowledge of self and confidence is formed from the many victories we won together as a people. I am inspired by D. Twe, Edwin Barclay, Arthur Barclay, Joseph Jenkins Robert, Dr. Togbah Nah Tipoteh, Amos Sawyer, Gabriel Bacchus Matthews, Dr. H.B Fahnbulleh, George Weah, Samuel K. Doe, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and the many Kru warriors who lied down their lives in pursuit of equality. I AM A LIBERIAN
