I LAYED IN THE COLD wishing this pain would just end. I didn’t know what to do anymore. “Honey are you okay,” said a woman. “No, I’m not, I said. “It’s too cold out here, why don’t you come with us,” said the lady. I got off the bench and got in her car. A man was with her. He was the driver. “Do you have family,” asked the woman. “No, I have no one,” I said as I cried. “What’s your name hon?” she asked. “Leena,” I said. “Well Leena, my name is Silvia and this is my husband Erik. You can stay with us tonight and tomorrow we can figure something out,” says Silvia. Maybe it’s a good thing I still have on this Halloween get up. They probably have no idea that I am a grown woman. Shortly I arrived at their home. It was cozy. They had a fire place. The living room was big. “We have a guest room where you can sleep and stay warm for the night,” said Silvia. “Thank you very much,” I said. I then went into the guest room and climbed under the covers to keep warm. I then silently cried myself to sleep. The next morning I woke up and Silvia and Erik made breakfast. I sat down at the table and there were sausages, eggs and biscuits. It was nice to have this feeling of family. I just wish I can have my own family one day. “So what are you going to do Leena,” asked Erik. “I don’t know yet. I just have some things I have to take care of. Can I come back later?” I asked. “Sure, you can come any time. Let us know what you are going to do,” said Silvia. I WENT BACK TO WHAT was once my home to grab my belongings. Daddy let me in to get my stuff. I went upstairs and put on a song by Skeeter Davis called “The End of the World” the lyrics expressed how I felt. Sacha was in the bathroom upstairs while daddy was downstairs in the kitchen. Sacha finally came out the bathroom. “Can I talk to you for a minute please,” I asked Sacha. “Sure, what is it,” she said. “I make blouses and I can make you one,” I said. “That’s okay. I’m sorry that your father is acting this way to you.” “Can I please make one for you? I would feel better as a gift,” I said. “Okay, you can do that,” Sacha said. “Okay, I need measurements. First I have to measure the circumference of your neck. Sacha sat down and let me measure her neck. Just then the knife I had in my hand I snuck up behind her and slashed her throat. She could not yell out for I cut into her wind pipe. This was dreamlike, it doesn’t seem real. I then walked down stairs while playing the same song “End of the World over and over again. I looked and saw daddy in the kitchen. “So you still have a line of coke left? Leena will have her stuff packed soon and it will just be us,” daddy said. Just then he turned around and realized it was me and not Sacha. “What are you doing? Are you still packing?” asked daddy. “Yes, I’m almost done,” I said. “Okay, that’s good, so what do you want?” asked daddy. “I’m so sorry daddy for all I done,” I said. “Okay and where is Sacha? She sure is taking long in the bathroom. I know she better not being doing the rest of the coke,” said daddy. As soon as daddy walked away toward the direction of the stairs I pulled out the knife and stabbed him in the back while full of rage. I don’t know what came over me; it was as if I was an observer watching this being done. Everything was a blur as I kept stabbing nonstop. I couldn’t stop as I wasn’t really there. I was looking down at myself doing this. I was in a blind rage and everything is so fuzzy. Finally I looked down and saw daddy sleeping covered in blood. I had the knife in my hand. In the background I still hear Skeeter Davis song “End of the World” playing. “What do I do now? Daddy is going to be so mad at me when he wakes up. Sacha is still sleeping too, and she is on my bedroom floor,” I thought. I wasn’t sure what to do. Should I clean up the blood? Maybe if I do, he won’t be so mad when he wakes up. I then went into the kitchen and got a rag and a bucket of water to clean up all the blood. I also went upstairs to clean up Sacha’s blood. I was scared that daddy may want to hurt me when he wakes up. I hope that he will understand. Maybe I needed to go for a walk. After cleaning up the blood I decided maybe I should go to the Halloween party after all. Then I just remembered the party was yesterday, not today. Should I go over those nice people’s house that took care of me last night? Maybe later. Instead I got on the train to go downtown in Tallinn. Downtown I went into the Old Town for Halloween. It is reported that all the old houses have hauntings. I went near the Cat’s Well on Rataskaevu 16 Street. The house numbered 16 is known as the Devil’s Wedding. One of the windows on the top floor is bricked up from the inside. It has fake curtains painted on the inside. This is a 15th century house that has Tallinn’s most talked about ghost legend called the Devil’s Wedding. The tale is something like this: Long time ago, the landlord of this house, desperate for money and near suicidal with despair, was approached by a mysterious, cloaked man who offered a huge sum of money to rent the upstairs flat for a party. The renter’s only condition was complete privacy. The landlord readily agreed. During the evening in question, loud noises were heard, as if a hundred people were tramping up the stairs, and an ungodly racket issued from the room. Precisely at one o’clock, the sound abruptly stopped, as if the party had simply vanished. The next day the landlord‘s servant, who had been spying through the keyhole, was found deadly ill. Before dying, the servant claimed to have seen the Devil himself having a wedding party in the flat. For centuries as people late at night passed this house they heard unexplained thundering footsteps on the stairs and it only stopped when a later landlord bricked up the window. In one of the walls human bones were found. I am trying to enjoy myself, but what if daddy wakes up and realize what I did. He is going to be furious. Maybe I better not go home right away. I then went to the Stable Tower. It is a haunted prison that has been reported to have ghost. The prison was for minor offenses in the 15th and 16th centuries. One story is a skeptical councilman, tired of the prisoners’ complaints about a glowing skeleton that tormented them during their imprisonment, decided to debunk the case by moving the prisoners out and spending the night there himself. Unfortunately, nobody knows what he saw. He was carried out the next morning in a catatonic state, and died a few days later. AFTER THE TOUR I WENT over Silvia and Erik’s home. “Leena, have you figure out what you are going to do?” asked Erik. “Can I just stay here a few days please?” I asked. “I just hope I will be safe here from daddy,” I thought.
