I LOVE THE NIGERIAN CENTENARY SONG: I WISH WE COULD RISE UP TO THE IDEALS BEING PREACHED HERE: The song starts with: here we are standing strong. I wish we could truly say that of every facet of our national life. I wish we had leaders who are ready to give their lives for the next generation - leaders who think of US instead of SELF. REMEMBERING ABRAHAM LINCOLN, THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR AND THE 13TH AMENDMENT: The 238th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence was a few days ago. I had the pleasure of going over the American journey to democracy once again. Beyond George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, one personality struck out beyond the founding fathers who declared independence from the British imperialists in 1776, his name was Abraham Lincoln, the 16th of the United States of America. He came at one of the most turbulent times in American history. The war between the industrial North and agrarian South was raging. He stood strong for the nation; prosecuting the war and reuniting the Country. He also pushed for the 13th Amendment which declared that all men were equal before the law and granting freedom to African Americans after centuries of slavery. He paid the supreme price for standing against the status-quo, by losing life in the process, but his legacies still speak after over a century. NATION BUILDING IS ABOUT SACRIFICES - THERE ARE NO EASY STREETS - NIGERIA EITHER MAKES BEND OR RISK DISINTEGRATION: We need a leader at this testy time who will lead the troops. We need a Moses who will begin the move to the promise land. It can happen, it should happen! My generation may not reap the benefits of the sacrifice, but at least, someone has got to stand-up for the future generation.
