I.O.W. Studio School August update: Message for all 2014 student starters and families from the Headteacher, Richard White: Dear Parents/Students School BUILDING TOURS The building work is reaching an exciting climax. The full facility handover is right on schedule and will be managed in a way so that we can have sufficient use of key teaching spaces during the first few weeks of the autumn term. I am very confident that after the usual snagging and signing-off processes, all students and our staff will soon be enjoying full use of the state-of-the-art buildings and technology within. I have visited the site regularly throughout the summer months and have been extremely impressed by the quality of work and the speed of progress delivered by the numerous island-based building specialists and site management team from Kier Construction. As I have mentioned previously, we will be offering brief site tours for those who want to get their bearings ahead of opening on Tuesday 9 September. The tours are at specific times between Wednesday 27.08.14 and Wednesday 03.09.14. If you would like to secure a ‘tour slot please email [email protected] or telephone 023 8057 7510. Simply let us know which of the times you like to reserve and we will do our best to accommodate you. As the contractors are in the final stages of completion and many workers are in and out of the school, we can only accommodate a limited number of people on each visit. I therefore ask that each family is restricted to your son/daughter and one parent. We will be inviting all parents to visit the school during the first term to see the site and meet the staff so future opportunities to tour are only weeks away! The times are as follows: Wed 27.08.14 3pm or 4pm Thurs 28.08.14 9am or 12 noon or 3pm Fri 29.08.14 9am or 12 noon or 3pm Tues 02.09.14 12 noon or 3pm Wed 03.09.14 12 noon or 3pm NB. A maximum of 12 people (6 families with 2 people each) per tour. Each tour will last between 30-45mins. All families should meet at Grange Rd entrance 10 minutes before their tour time. BUSINESS WEAR I do hope the process of ordering and receiving the new school business dress has been straightforward via skoolkit.co.uk Once on the site simply type into the search Isle of Wight Studio School. Feedback has been very positive and we hope that students have or are just about to receive the suits, ties and sports tops. The dress code is compulsory from the first school day onwards. Please contact the Studio School on 023 8057 7510 if any problems have arisen regarding uniform. WEEK ONE – INDUCTION WEEK Tuesday 09.09.14 to Friday 12.09.14 School starts at 8.30am prompt. Students will be able to access the school no earlier than 8.10am each day (unless agreed between parents and the Headteacher). Induction activities will reflect much of what we do at the Studio School – it will involve an innovative education for our ambitious learners. Our focus will be around embedding our ethos and establishing the very best working routines.
