I accepted John Summoerlot’s challenge to list 5 things I am grateful for 5 days. I do this regularly so I will forgo the obvious; Family, Health , Work etc. and focus on the things that affect my life which I rarely consider or miss. 1) I am Grateful for William G. Morgan who invented Volleyball. This sport has ignited passion and determination in my daughter. She has become both physically and socially stronger and more independent. She has learned to grow from hard work, learn from mistakes and accept responsibility. She is learning to transfer the skills, principles and fundamentals of the sport to other areas of her life. 2) I am grateful for my Mother who has shown me the results of a life lead in fear and loathing of everything and everyone. 3) I am grateful for my knee injury, which tests my limits. The pain and the inability to participate in activities, challenges me to keep my mood, emotions and actions in check, challenges me to work through it and around it. I look forward to getting this repaired but it’s not until close to the end of the month I can begin this path. Which brings me to: 4) I am grateful to have learned Patience and Acceptance. Instead of focusing on what I can’t change, my response is to look for what I can do to help others. My patience comes from years of practicing impatience and viewing the result. 5) My job has a net effect of teaching me gratitude for how amazing my children behave and respond to challenges and their willingness to accept difficult or advanced work. I get to see college aged kids from all walks of life who do not possess these qualities and are aimless and lost. I also get to see the few who do and make the most of their lives by being active participants in what they do.
