I admire that my husband made a choice to do the right thing and accept the repercussions. He witnessed a neighbor, that he considered a friend, shooting another neighbor-friends dog and killing it for absolutely no reason. The dog was was not only not being a nuisance or danger to anyone, he was nowhere near the mans property or family- there was nothing he could possibly allege he was protecting. He simply stood in the middle of the street in front of our house (at least 1/2 mile away from his own house) and shot the dog because he felt like it. When Rob, our dog-owner friend, asked John to make a statement to the police about what he saw and testify, if necessary, he didnt hesitate or say I know him- I dont want to get involved. He believed it was the right thing to do and still does. Since that time, months ago, John has endured abuse and threats from this man and other neighbors. The man owns a trailer park near us and has bad-mouthed John to all the residents to the point that a few days ago he was verbally assaulted, screamed and cursed at and threatened while merely walking down to the driveway to get the mail. He was called a lying MF and much worse. The dog-shooter previously threatened to shoot John if he ever set foot on the trailer park property- the only time John has ever been there was to HELP some of the tenants. This is the exact same mentality that I have seen many times over the years and watching the looting and rioting in Ferguson made me remember something I learned years ago: There is a segment of our society that cares nothing about right or wrong- if one of their people has an enemy that is all they need to justify hating or assaulting that person, calling them a liar and doing everything they can to manipulate the scenario while ignoring the facts. Im all for loyalty, but you dont stand up on the side of wrong and try to loot, steal, harass, lie about or cause harm to good people- that is NOT about supporting your people. That is just proving you are a ASS-HOLE with no integrity or class!
