I am a 52 yr woman who was born with a birthmark also. Mine is on the left side of my whole body. It is a dark but not purple unless I am cold. My boss showed me a picture of a young 13 yr old woman and it got me to thinking about others who like me have this. I too have grown up being teased and humiliated from the time I was born. I finally grew a " tough skin" and didnt care anymore. I have been told that I have been kissed by angels. through my life I have had people scared of me thinking I was contagious so they would run or move to another line in grocery stores. I was going to a new church a couple of yrs ago and there was a little african american girl sitting on the steps. I asked her if church had started yet and she let out a blood screaming scream and ran around the church several times. It took the pasters wife to calm her down enough to come in the church. Finally we were introduced with all the young children asking questions, wanting to touch me, and asking what was wrong with me. I always tell young children that I am just like them and that our blood is the same but I am just a different color. God made me special. I tried wearing makeup but that didnt work. so I chose to just be "WHO I AM" to all of you out there it is hard and you have to be tough. God made us special. You are beautiful and wonderfully made and we are one of a kind. I see this photo of a new born with this stain and thats how I looked too except down the whole left side. It has effected my left side also with it being 1/2 a size shorter (brain to foot and bone structure). my name is Mindy and also it is good to have special friends to help you out. My best friend , loretta, we met in 5th grade and she has been a god send to me. she sticks up for me still we have been friends for 42 yrs she lives in another state.
