I am feeling a little melancholy because today marks the 20 year - TopicsExpress

I am feeling a little melancholy because today marks the 20 year anniversary of my last service with the St. Luke’s Episcopal Choir under the direction of David Koehring. I sang with them for 17 years, starting when I was just 7 years old. I learned so many things through being in choir, from how to read and how to read music, to the importance of being prepared and professionalism. I gained confidence through performance. I gained unique experiences and opportunities that included travel, performing with members of the Long Beach Symphony and LA Philharmonic, being on TV, and singing for royalty. I gained a strong knowledge of the liturgy and the history of the Church. And most of all I developed friendships with some amazing individuals. And while I man no longer be a part of such a group it continues to remain a part of me. To this day I still have an affinity for the musical stylings of William Byrd, Thomas Tallis, Orlando Gibbons, Charles Stanford, Ralph Vaughn Williams, Gabriel Faure, Antonio Vivaldi, Mozart, Stravinsky, Benjamin Britten, Richard Feliciano, Anton Bruckner, and of course the three Great B’s: Bach, Beethoven, and Sowerby, just to mention a few of the incredible composers whose music I had the pleasure of learning and singing. So in honor of this day I lift up everyone who was a member or who helped support us and say THANK YOU for being a part of my life. This hymn, while not us, is one of my all-time favorites and was the last piece of music we sang.
