I am going to write a post about the parenting technique called, either/ or, and would love to add a bunch of concrete examples. Could you please share yours? An either/ or is when you give a child two options that still get the task done. For example, with little ones, you can use, It is out-the-door time. Are you coming here to put your shoes on OR am I carrying you here? (Instead of, Put your shoes on! or I said five times to come here--we have to go!!) Teenagers: I hear you have a math test tomorrow. What time of day is better for you to study? Do you want to do that now OR after supper? (Instead of, Study for your test. or No TV for you today--you have to study.) As with any parenting techniques, they are helpful if there is some chance of a power struggle developing. If you and your child are in a peak-time where your relationship is strong, maybe you can get away with, Go study now without backtalk. Similar to the when/ then technique, this type of instruction has a higher chance of increasing cooperation. Oh, Ill put a link to the when/ then post for those who havent heard of it.> #PositiveDiscipline
