I am graduating with my BA in English at the end of this semester - TopicsExpress

I am graduating with my BA in English at the end of this semester and I am at a crossroads. Fortune has given me the opportunity to, essentially, matriculate in any graduate program that the University of Guam has to offer. I want to enroll in the MA in English, simply because that is the field and subject that I am most passionate and interested in at this time. This would also allow me to apply for admissions to a number of PhD programs which offer full-scholarships with stipends, an associateship, and possibility of a fellowship as well. The problem is, when I conduct research on the employment prospects of those who have earned graduate degrees in the humanities, including English, the general word is bad. The feedback is overwhelmingly bad, often bitter. There are more than a few people who down right say, Dont continue in the humanities! Do something else, like business or technology! Really? What if I dont like business? I already work in the technical field, telecommunications to be exact, and I dont really like it. If I did, I would have earned a degree in computer science or something else along those lines! I realize this particular dilemma is one which many people wish that they had to deal with, but I am truly at a loss as to what I should do. Joseph Campbell wrote that one should follow their bliss, but that path does not look to be very blissful. I guess Im saying that I need a little input from my friends. Thanks.
