I am in a leadership development conference with 200 of the top talent at my company of which less than 20 are black. Ironically however, all three media examples illustrating leadership reference black film and historical figures. They showed remember the Titans , coach carter, and clips from MLK I have a dream speech. For me it exposed not only the hypocritical and endemically contradictory nature of racism , but the clear disillusionment and cluelessness white people have when unconsciously expressing it. Clearly, we are the ideal representation of leadership yet are hired with marginal frequency. At the same time it shows the vulnerability of whiteness because although it presents itself as ideal, it literally relies on the fruits of blackness to do so. #Deep moment of critical reflection.
