I am legally blind. Believe me, Ive had my fair share of days when I wished I could change that, but I do not, and have never, felt that I am limited by my eyes. I feel that I have lived my 24+ years as fully as any human being can ask for in spite of my disability. I have faced challenges and overcome them. I have dreamed dreams and some of them have become realities. I have given myself to my loves and my passions and they have yielded rewards beyond what I could have hoped for. So yes, I have my days when I dwell in laziness, in sorrow, and in self-pity. But at the end of my life, when they carve my head stone and when someone delivers my eulogy, I want it to be known that I didnt let ANYTHING keep me down. I want it to be known that I said challenge accepted when I could have said I quit. My spirits may be dampened, but they will never drown. I may get distracted from hope, but I will never lose sight of it. I will face my challenges head on, with all the patient ferocity and determination of the river that shares my name. I will never quit, I will never dismay, I will never lose faith. If you or anyone you love struggles with a disability of any kind, I encourage you never to look at yourself, or them, as one who is limited.
